To Be Afraid
To be taken away
From your home
To have everything
Stripped from you
To be separated from family
To be mistreated
To live in fear
Every day
Thinking you just might die
To think someone could
be so violent
And treat people like animals
To think
Every day is my
Last day

Dear J.J.E., Your poem is very moving~partly, because of its sparse, stripped-down form. It's as if there is no where to hide from the fear. The short phrases tell the truth without covering it up with fancy language that might cover up the horror. Your word choice adds to this feeling..."stripped", "separated", "mistreated", "violent", "animals"..each thrusts home the fear. Amazing!
