Arrival at Auschwitz

Stripping one of their pride
Babies thrown into the air
like Frisbees
Even though they're human
Stripping one of their pride
their family
possessions
clothes
home
hair
name
cherished things
was it all an illusion?

I'm fascinated by the word "pride". I don't know if you meant this but I get a double meaning from it as I read your poem: "Pride" as in that feeling related to our self-respect but I keep hearing "Pride" as in a Pride (family) of Lions. And that makes me think about how the Jews were being destroyed as a people, a collective. One could be destroyed for being a member of that pride. something impossible to change.
I also really like the sweetness of the phrase "cherished things" against the starkness of what was actually happening. Yeah, "illusion", indeed. It had to be, and still is, unbelievable, isn't it?
